Management by Participation means leadership through participation in German.

One danger of MbP is that employees quickly overestimate their right to participate in decision-making. This leads to reprimands, which in turn have a toxic effect on the established sense of cooperation. Furthermore, many different opinions can exist among employees, which can hinder each other. In this case, a strong leader is needed to decide how to proceed. This also creates a relatively high level of overhead for management.

The MbP is generally a good choice for companies where employees are already motivated. This is because they are already interested in their work, and their willingness to perform is only strengthened by the right to have a say. Many industries that thrive on employees' strong self-interest and rely on creativity benefit from this leadership technique. Examples include the computer games industry, startups in general, and other creative sectors. Employees who are passionate about their work are arguably a company's most valuable asset, as they are happy to put in the extra effort and improve wherever possible.
